On this walking tour you will get the opportunity to see how many of the population in Lima really live. We at Haku Tours want you to see 'the real' Lima. Take a walk up the famous "yellow stairs" and along narrow cute roads, visit a local kindergarten, silverware factory andthe friendly families from this nice community. The town's huge dimensions and breathtaking views are impressive for any visitor.

Itinerary:

On arrival you will be told about security and some basic guidelines to follow while on this tour. While we know 'shanty towns' do have a reputation, we want you to feel 100% safe at all times.

While you slowly make your way to the base of the hill, our guide will explain about the community and its developments, about the urbanization projects, politics, religion etc.

Gradually you will slowly start your journey up the ‘yellow stairs’, pause for pictures of the amazing views of greater Lima, get a glimpse into homes, local life and interact with the neighbours and families we will meet on the way

Stopping along the way to take photos of typical homes, families and see first-hand the smiling children of Lima. You will meet a local craftsman who produces beautiful hand-made silverware, and perhaps if he sells something make a purchase or two.

On your way down you will visit a local kindergarten (*not open on weekends but you will meet these children also on the streets), where you have the opportunity to be part of the local activities, probably including to play voleyball or football with the local children.

Important to know: in the past the Shanty Towns suffer a lot of abuse from foreigeners, many children got stolen from these communities and their families; for this reason in all visits, a Police man will be part of the group to be sure everything is going good and well for the children

We recommended you: to wear at least a colourful clothe because locals found it nice and friendly, dark colours it's synonym of bad luck and bad omen. Do not bring any kind of big bags and small cameras only

Wear comfortable clothes and shoes, sunglasses, sunscreen and a hat, take a bottle of water with you and spare battery for your camera.

TOUR PICK UP: All our prices included pick up and drop off to your hotel only when it is located in: Miraflores, San Isidro, Barranco and Lima centre. Outside these places, you have to pay a small fee for your pick up/drop off
