The Shanty Town Tour
The Shanty Town Tour (Local Life Experience)
This is a very
interesting walking tour and you can see how the majority of the Lima
population lives. Anthropology is the study of a living culture, so this is
considered an anthropological experience because you will meet local people and
interact with them.
We
at Haku Tours want you to see 'the real' Lima during the tour. The local
people will share with you their culture, traditions, beliefs and thoughts.
You should expect to get warm welcoming and happy smiles (locals love visitors).
Lima is home to over 11 million people and almost 70%
of the population lives in poor areas. A large portion of these people reside
in the shanty towns that are rapidly expanding throughout Peru’s capital. Many
members of these communities come from the Andes or the Peruvian Amazon. The shanty towns are composed of communities living in extreme poverty that lack running water, electricity, and other basic needs.
Haku Tours works as a non-profit organization. We do
sustainable and responsible tourism. Remember that taking this tour you are
also supporting the local economy because with 100% of the money you pay, goes
to the Reciprocity NGO to make social projects in different communities in Lima.
Come along with us and get to know this
and other more ancient traditions in the Shanty Town Tour!
